This season, Ensemble Lemniscate celebrates its 10th anniversary as Ensemble of the Season at Gare du Nord.

As befits good celebrations, they switch on the musical adventure mode and embark on a search for the unheard with the audience! In addition to world premieres and a handful of highlights from recent years, Ensemble Lemniscate brings a variety of refreshing new pieces by young, already internationally renowned and established composers to Basel.

The focus is on the framing of the large ensemble works and the further development of the concert form. A multitude of interludes, miniatures and interventions - created together with composers who are friends and close to the ensemble - will frame the larger ensemble pieces and comment on them artistically. They tie in with the pulsating interface between handmade analogue electronics and chamber music, oscillating between zeitgeist, new music and pop culture, with the aim of keeping the concert experience exciting.

In three programmes they present an exciting and diverse artistic spectrum between ensemble pieces, chamber music, performance and video art and move a little closer to utopia.

The ensemble: Tatiana Timonina (flute), Azra Ramic (clarinet), Andreas Kunz (violin), Sophie Wahlmüller (viola), Ellen Fallowfield (cello), Gilles Grimaître; Helga Karen (piano), Miguel Ángel Garcia Martin (percussion), Daniel Moreira (conductor), Andreas Eduardo Frank (artistic direction)

Lemniscate meets: Anna Sowa (UA), Katharina Rosenberger, Mauro Hertig (UA), Cathy van Eck, Maximilian Marcoll, Michael Beil, Svetlana Maras, Ricardo Eizirik, Garry Berger, Michael Meierhof, Natasha Diels, Simon Steen-Andersen and many more.

Ensemble Lemniscate is an international group of talented soloists actively engaged in the music of our time. Since its founding in 2012, the Basel-based ensemble has focused on the present and fostered an intensive artistic exchange with the young contemporary music scene. With the philosophy of realising daring, challenging projects, the ensemble strives to broaden the reception of contemporary music both in Switzerland and abroad.
