Sonic Boom – Léo Collin

«Sonic Boom» is the new artist-in-residence programme at Gare du Nord. Eight emerging talents from the worlds of contemporary and experimental music will bring their visions to life through innovative concert formats, sound performances and evenings of musical theatre. Over a period of two years, they will each design and present two evenings in which they can express their individual artistic approaches. Accompanied by the venue’s own discourse format and mentoring programme, Gare du Nord offers a platform for audiences, the scene and artists with this series, thereby opening up space for creative encounters.

The performance «Migraine» is a research project at the intersection of music, theatre and technology. Whilst exploring ultrasound and infrasound, Léo Collin discovered that both the human body and the human ear require technical aids to perceive these frequencies. «Migraine» invites the audience to rethink the relationship between sound, technology and human perception.

With «Venir meno», Francesca Sproccati leads us into the palace of Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep, and invites us to plunge into the darkness as a collective body. Far removed from the visible world and connected to the deepest layers of being, two shimmering figures appear. At times they seem like apparitions of Hypnos himself, who might deliver us through eternal sleep from work, competition and the exhaustion of a performance-driven society. At other times, they take on the features of Battista, Francesca’s great-grandfather and a partisan who helped liberate Italy from fascism. He embodies the power of collective resistance and the tireless struggle against injustice.

In this immersive setting, the performers tell their stories through live music and projected text. On stage, Francesca Sproccati and Léo Collin weave a timeless space between memory, dreams, echoes of past resistance and a longing for sweet disobedience.
