Changing Light
The 13th Mizmorim Chamber Music Festival will take place from 27 to 31 January 2027. The festival focuses on the encounter between Jewish and Western music, ranging from the ancient to the contemporary. In doing so, it opens up new perspectives on familiar works and presents rarely heard music. At the same time, Mizmorim sees music as a bridge between religions, traditions and cultures – even beyond current political developments.
In 2027 the festival will focus on an instrument closely linked to Jewish musical history: the violin. The image of the fiddler from Anatevka («Fiddler on the Roof») has become a symbol of the Jewish musician. At the same time, Jewish violinists have played a decisive role in shaping classical music. In this way, the violin connects different traditions, stories and musical worlds.
To conclude the Mizmorim festival day, Anna Juniki, Dmitry Smirnov, Brandon Grabot and Benedek Horváth will transport the audience into the soundscape of Kaija Saariaho. Rarely performed works, including «Bon vent» in its Swiss premiere, will be juxtaposed with the lyrical music of Sibelius, coming together to form an atmospheric late-night concert.
