(Basel) Memory Space

With «(Basel) Memory Space», the ensemble eeek – Ensemble of the Season 2026/27 – pays tribute to the composer Alvin Lucier, whose work has had a lasting influence on our understanding of sound, space and hearing.
Drawing on selected works by Lucier, the project combines instrumental music with field recordings from Basel created especially for this concert. Everyday noises, voices and resonances are removed from their original context and, as sonic memories, enter into a new dialogue with live sounds. This creates an ever-changing soundscape in which music, space and the environment interpenetrate one another. The concert invites the audience to experience the act of listening anew and to question the boundaries between music and the sounds of everyday life.
