Beethoven knew that even a simple theme held countless possibilities. As a master of variation he repeatedly transformed the familiar into something new through humour, imagination and formal freedom. His early «Gassenhauer Trio», Op. 11 and the late Trio, Op. 121a, «Kakadu», demonstrate this art in very different ways.

TRIORARO takes this idea into the 21st century. The starting point is «He’s a Pirate» from «Pirates of the Caribbean» – a catchy tune of our time. Eight Swiss composers have taken up the theme and developed their own variations on it. Which of these will be performed and when is only decided during the concert: the audience determines the order and reassembles the musical kaleidoscope anew at every performance. In this way, the familiar is transformed into the unexpected time and again.
