The opera «Abduction of Europa» («7 Scenes of Irreversibility») draws on the ancient Greek myth of the abduction of Europa. Zeus approaches the young Phoenician princess Europa in the guise of a white bull, gains her trust and abducts her. This myth forms the central metaphor of the opera and serves as the starting point for an exploration of European history.
Europa appears as a female figure in various stages of life, from a newborn to an elderly woman. Each of these stages of life also represents an era in European cultural history, spanning a period from antiquity to the present day.
