As part of the «Sonic Boom» artist-in-residence programme, eight artists and ensembles specialising in contemporary and experimental music are given the opportunity to realise their own concert formats, sound performances and music theatre productions. Over a period of two years, they will each design and present two evenings in which they can express their individual artistic approaches. Accompanied by an in-house discussion series and mentoring programme, the series provides a space for exchange between the audience, the scene and the artists.
«Songs For» explores the concept of the song and breaks down familiar forms of songwriting into short, scattered pieces of musical material. In doing so, it brings questions of authorship and collaboration to the fore: ghostwriting, collective writing and individual contributions intertwine, challenging the notion of a work that can be clearly attributed to a single source.
Individual artistic practices are passed on to other artists, taken up by them, reinterpreted and further developed. In this way, the ensemble too moves between commonality and individuality, between cohesion and fragmentation.
In this way, «Songs For» transforms creative processes, divides them and reassembles them. From diverse artistic styles emerges music that seeks common roots without dissolving its polyphonic nature.
