Alltid densamme © Antonio La Fosca_Dagmar Puzberg
To mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of Queen Christina of Sweden (1626–1689), this concert brings to life, through words, music and performance, the eventful life of one of the most charismatic figures of the 17th century and an outstanding figure in women’s history.
Shaped from an early age by an unconventional spirit and remarkable independence, Christina defied the expectations of her time: she refused to marry, abdicated the throne, converted to Catholicism and left Sweden. She spent the second half of her life in Rome, where she left her mark on artistic and political life. She loved both men and women, baffled and fascinated those around her, supported artists, and moved with confidence in the circles of popes and cardinals.
The title «Alltid densamme» («Always the Same») refers to the motto of the Order of the Amaranth, which she founded. The monologues are based on historical sources.
