The Nikel Ensemble has enjoyed a long-standing artistic collaboration with the composer Sarah Nemtsov. A highlight was the tetralogy «TZIMTZUM» for Nikel and orchestra, composed between 2020 and 2023. The 80-minute cycle comprises three works for the ensemble with varying orchestral accompaniments, as well as a fourth piece for the quartet alone, entitled «SH’VIRAH». The entire cycle can also be heard on the album of the same name, released by Bastille Musique.
This portrait concert is entirely dedicated to the music of Sarah Nemtsov. With solo and duo works, the Nikel ensemble sketches out an imaginary prequel to «TZIMTZUM». Gradually the line-up expands until in «SH’VIRAH» all four members are on stage together. The evening is rounded off by a new documentary film by Paul Moon about Nikel’s 2025 US tour, as well as the presentation of «DECADE II» and the album «Nemtsov Tzimtzum».
Ensemble Nikel: Brian Archinal (percussion); Yaron Deutsch (electric guitar); Antoine Françoise (keyboard); Patrick Stadler (saxophone)
