DEEP SPACE
Resonance. Drift. Dub.
With his master's recital, Stefan Preyer creates an electroacoustic CV in the form of a walk-in sound environment that is part concert, part installation and part sculptural space.
Together with audio designer Theo Flach, he has spent several years developing the «Deep Space» series – a sequence of experimental arrangements exploring the relationship between bass, space and perception.
«Deep Space Dome» was dedicated to the physically perceptible energy of subfrequencies. «Grains» explored microacoustic impulses in a vibrating metal body. «Subspace Bass» investigated the fretless electric bass as a trigger for spatial processes and dub-inspired transformations.
The duo performs in precisely coordinated interaction. Composed material meets structural grooves and open, improvised states. The bass becomes a projection surface for impulses, the space a resonating body. Music appears here not as a finished form, but as a state: vibrating, drifting, in constant transition.
As part of «ATTACCA – Festival for Contemporary Music» at the FHNW Academy of Music in Basel, students from the fields of audio design, composition, open creation and contemporary music present their current artistic projects. The programme includes original compositions, performances, improvisations and works by contemporary composers. The concerts take place over several days in different formats and with different line-ups.
