Just as the framework conditions of architecture are changing, architecture itself is also changing over time – and with it the standards of aesthetic conventions.
Climate change and rising construction costs have reignited interest in low-tech approaches to architecture. Today, architects are increasingly looking for simple, efficient solutions that can be implemented in harmony with local conditions. Drawing on insights from her book entitled ‘Ästhetik der Technik’ (The Aesthetics of Technology) and from her practice at her Berlin-based architectural firm, Christina Köchling shows how building technology can be understood as an integral part of the design and architectural concept.
«Ein Haus…» is a series of lectures in which buildings are presented in detail. This highlights the different perspectives of architects, clients, artists, users and others who influence the appearance and fate of the buildings. The focus of the presentations varies, ranging from urban planning premises to construction challenges, from historical references to social ambitions.
