Ensemble Proton Bern © Remo Ubezio
In «Bold & Just», the Proton Ensemble presents two new works by Saad Haddad and Marc Sabat. Their compositions bring together two extraordinary instruments: the fascinating 36-note Arciorgano by Nicola Vicentino, reconstructed by Basel-based «Studio 31+», and, as a contrast, the innovative electronic musical instrument Lumatone, which has a total of 280 hexagonal keys.
In his new piece, Marc Sabat refers to the Mexican music pioneer Erv Wilson, who developed a microtonal system based on Mexican and American folk traditions.
Saad Haddad explores the tonal characteristics and traditions of the Middle East and the West, very much in the spirit of Vicentino, who saw his Arciorgano as an instrument for musicians of all cultures.
Bettina Berger (Flute); Martin Bliggenstorfer (Oboe); Richard Elliot Haynes (Clarinet); Elise Jacoberger (Bassoon); Vera Schnider (Harp); Coco Schwarz (Arciorgano/Lumatone); Maximilian Haft (Violin); Jan-Filip Ťup (Violoncello)
