Sturz in die Sonne

Michael Anklin, Janiv Oron, Thomas Giger, Marie Delprat, Luz González & Greta Magnani

To mark the beginning of the 25/26 season, Gare du Nord presents «Sturz in die Sonne» – an immersive sound performance for a turntable ensemble, performers, and voice.

The rotating record, whose needle inevitably spirals toward the center, is both musical starting point and symbol – for a world that is heating up and sinking into chaos. Inspired by Charles Ferdinand Ramuz, the evening follows the narrative of his 1922 novel of the same name.
«Sturz in die Sonne» transforms his vision of doom into sound and resonance – and asks what is at stake if Ramuz's summer of 1921 actually comes to be.

Based on commissions to nine musicians, a polyphonic work is created, played live on eight turntables by four performers. The fragmented text, spoken by Cathrin Störmer, runs like a pulsating thread throughout the music.

A project by Janiv Oron, Thomas Giger, Michael Anklin, Marie Delprat, Luz González, and Greta Magnani, in collaboration with Martina Berther, Noémi Büchi, Rea Dubach, Violeta Garcia, Flo Kaufmann, Ruhail Qaisar, and Christian Zehnder.
