It is worthwhile to reexamine the oeuvre of a composer from time to time and to check its aesthetic «durability». The Mike Svoboda Quartet's successful programme «Do you love Wagner?» is just such an unconventional examination of Richard Wagner's dazzling oeuvre. Its lively leader - an internationally celebrated trombonist and composer who has worked with Frank Zappa and Karlheinz Stockhausen, among others - has already set striking accents in Leverkusen. His quartet, which in addition to vocals, trombone, cello, double bass and drums also plays electric guitar and melodica, illuminates the compositions of the Bayreuth master from the perspective of new music, jazz, rock and pop; embedded in this virtuoso and entertaining spectacle are texts for, against and by Wagner - by Thomas Mann, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Erik Satie and Friedrich Nietzsche, among others.
Karolina Öhman (cello), Stefan Preyer (contra-bass), João Carlos Pacheco (drums, electric guitar accordion), Mike Svoboda (trombone, recitation, composition)
