«Nachtstrom» is an electrifying exploration of sound that begins at sunset at the earliest and showcases a wide variety of electronic music on stage: live electronics meets acousmatic soundscapes, audiovisual performances meet improvisations, and more.
This concert presents a programme in two contrasting parts:
In the first part, Heather Roche collaborates with two of her long-standing musical partners, Hollie Harding and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay, to create new works for the rare combination of contrabass clarinet and electronics. The instrument itself is a monster: organic, pulsating, breathy, fragile, quiet and yet powerful. It is fertile ground for virtuoso explorations and a profound dialogue with electronics of various kinds.
In the second part, Alberto Barberis and Bera Romairone present «ERRO.», a performance that emerged from interdisciplinary, transmedial research and examines mistakes and errors as potential tools of subversive resistance within a technocratic world model. Through the central hacktivist practice of «algorithm bending» in dialogue between digitally enhanced musical performance and an interactive light sculpture, «ERRO.» formulates an urgent aesthetic of sonic error – an embodied, emotional voice that critically examines the supposed autonomy of artificiality.
The Nachtstrom concerts are organised by the Electronic Studio Basel, which is part of the FHNW Academy of Music.
