Morton Feldman's music is often described as «music about and for eternity». His last work, «Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello» from 1987, progresses slowly and quietly, with small changes in the chords. Listeners get the impression that the work has always been there and will continue to sound forever, even though Feldman set the double bar line after 75 minutes. Together with the Czech pianist, the Mondrian Ensemble presents a programme that focuses on this fascinating work.
The first part of the programme provides an insight into the diverse landscape of American music. It features string trios by Catherine Lamb, Elliott Carter, Andrew Norman and Paul Wiancko, as well as a world premiere by Biel-based composer and trumpeter Jalalu-Kalvert Nelson.
