Sinne

Mondrian Ensemble + Gast

The Mondrian Ensemble's programme «Sinne» is dedicated to music for string trio from Finland. It aims to sharpen the senses for the extraordinarily rich musical landscape of the country from which so many important personalities have emerged.

In addition to the unfinished but nevertheless representative one-movement string trio by Jean Sibelius, the programme also includes the trio by Erkki Melartin, a contemporary of Sibelius who is little known outside Finland. The recently deceased Kaija Saariaho made an important contribution to the string trio repertoire with her «Cloud Trio» from 2009, while «Sinne» by Lotta Wennäkoski also features music from the younger generation. In addition, a new work by the Basel-based Finnish gambist, improviser and composer Anna-Kaisa Meklin will be created especially for this programme.
