Some of the most important composers of contemporary Swiss music began their careers in Bern, and even studied under the same teacher, Sándor Veress.
Jürg Wyttenbach, Heinz Holliger and Roland Moser are among them, whose music is reminiscent here of a fourth prominent Bernese: the early deceased chansonnier Mani Matter, who was a close friend of Wyttenbach in his youth and planned an opera with him.
Two tributes by Holliger and Wyttenbach can be heard. Moser has set to music five of Matter's legacy texts for this occasion and one of his major works will also be perform: his «Brentanophantasien», in which he sets to music in song and piano the poems of this Romantic, who was overflowing with linguistic wit and imagination.
