Vortragsreihe «Ein Haus...»: Lütjens Padmanabhan

In autumn 2026 the «Ein Haus…» lecture series organised by the Institute of Architecture at the FHNW will enter a new phase. The four evenings will focus on different forms of collaboration, joint design and authorship. On this evening, Lütjens Padmanabhan will present a cooperative housing project in Zurich designed in collaboration with Caruso St John. Along Gutstrasse, two related yet distinct houses form a pair – and are also the result of the first collaboration between the two practices.

In the winter semester of 2026, the lecture series «Ein Haus…» will feature four distinct perspectives on architecture: an international collective from Zurich and Belgrade; an architectural practice in Munich founded by three women; a London-based duo now working from Porto and Palma de Mallorca; and a Zurich-based architectural practice that collaborated with a local firm on a project in Algeria.
Using a specific building – in all four cases a residential house – the architects provide insights into their work and their working methods. Collective design is contrasted with collective living as a second perspective. Ranging from private homes to self-managed and co-operative housing, right through to a temporary form of social housing, the four houses presented give specific spatial form to different social structures and the respective relationship between the individual and the community.
«Ein Haus…» is a series of lectures in which buildings are presented in detail. This highlights the differing perspectives of architects, clients, artists, users and others who help shape the appearance and fate of these buildings. The focus of the analysis varies; it ranges from urban planning principles to structural challenges, and from historical references to social aspirations.
