What if the era of humanity were over and turtles—slow, friendly, ancient—were to populate the Earth? Would they dream of these strange primates, called humans, who had their chance and failed so miserably?
In the musical theater performance «Dreaming Turtles», the internationally renowned Finnish performance group Oblivia and the Basel-based experimental music ensemble KlangLab transform into exactly that: dreaming, floating, dancing, and singing turtles.
Using minimalist methods and exploring humanity’s big questions, «Dreaming Turtles» creates a world in which some of that serenity and playfulness returns—the kind that last existed on Earth before humans took the stage—and that may return once humans have disappeared.
Yet within the dreamlike, imaginative way of life of the turtles lies a glimmer of hope for humanity: the possibility and the promise of a way of living together based on community and kindness.
