«Venir Meno» / «music for monsters»

As part of the «Sonic Boom» artist-in-residence programme, eight artists and ensembles specialising in contemporary and experimental music are given the opportunity to realise their own concert formats, sound performances and music theatre productions. Over a period of two years, they will each design and present two evenings in which they can express their individual artistic approaches. Accompanied by an in-house discussion series and mentoring programme, the series provides a space for exchange between the audience, the scene and the artists.

Léo Collin opens the evening with the piece «Venir Meno» by Francesca Sproccati, which he helped to compose and perform.
The piece transports us to the palace of Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep, and invites us to plunge into the darkness as a collective body. Far removed from the visible world and connected to the deepest layers of being, two shimmering figures appear. At times, they seem like apparitions of Hypnos himself, who might deliver us from the eternal slumber of work, competition and the exhaustion of a performance-driven society. At other times, they take on the features of Battista, Francesca’s great-grandfather and a partisan who helped liberate Italy from fascism. He embodies the power of collective resistance and the tireless struggle against injustice. On stage, Francesca Sproccati, together with Léo Collin, weaves a timeless space between memory, dreams, echoes of past resistance and the longing for sweet disobedience.

Léo Collin concludes the evening with «music for monsters», a composition for a loudspeaker orchestra based on recordings of analogue EMS synthesisers. In it, he imagines analogue synthesis waves as powerful, archaic and almost magical beings capable of connecting and communicating with elemental forces of nature such as volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods or heatwaves.
