«Collective Listening» is an entertaining, audience-oriented discourse format on questions about the future, and is being held in this form for the first time as part of the Gare du Nord programme.
With the overarching theme of «Time Spirit», the evening invites participants to listen, think, and engage in conversation together. What drives today's music? Which sounds, ideas and styles shape our present, which prove to be timeless and which remain short-lived trends? What role do technology, aesthetics and increasingly blurred genre boundaries play in the current music scene? And what expectations does the audience have of tomorrow's music?
The panel discussion will feature Anja Wernicke (Pro Helvetia), Stéphane Roth (festival director – MUSICA), Raphael Sbrzesny (artist, musician and professor at FHNW Basel), Theresa Beyer (head of music editorial at Radio SRF 2) and Anda Kryeziu (composer, performer). They will respond to live input from the Sonic Boom artists and deliberately open the discussion to new perspectives and questions from the audience.
The panel discussion will be framed by short interventions from our artists-in-residence, their personal thoughts on the music of tomorrow, and a concluding live act with Yaand.
