«PS: and the trees will ask the wind» – a scenic-musical search for traces by Elnaz Seyedi and Ehsan Khatibi

ignm Basel

An unsolved, catastrophic event is at the heart of this scenic-musical composition. «PS: and the trees will ask the wind» is a forensic search for clues that attempts to shed light on the events and raises the question of what really happened. Two video recordings, taken at different times and by chance, serve as the source material.

Light becomes a central compositional element: it stands for enlightenment, discovery and remembrance – a movement that arises on the side of the victims. This contrasts with the emphatic desire for forgetting and repression on the part of politicians and perpetrators. This attitude is embodied sonically and visually through the use of a painter's spatula as an object instrument.

Through the strong abstraction of the documentary materials, the piece gains a universal relevance which, regardless of its specific historical context, is frighteningly topical in view of global developments.
